Martha Bell Miller Memorial Scholarship Awarded to Rock City College Student

September 18, 2024

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. See Rock City Inc. has awarded its 2024 Martha Bell Miller Memorial Scholarship to Jacob Oster, a member of the Operations Team. The scholarship for $5,000, renewable for up to four years, honors the memory of Martha Bell Miller, a lifelong educator who portrayed “Mother Goose” at Rock City for many years. The scholarship is awarded annually to partners (employees) of SRC who display outstanding commitment to their studies and roles within the organization.

“I am so excited for Jacob being awarded the Martha Bell Miller scholarship by the SRC scholarship committee,” said Zach Long, operations manager. “Jacob is a loyal and highly dependable partner and continues to go above and beyond to help us make memories worth repeating for our guests and partners. I am proud we can support his continued growth and success through this scholarship.”

Lookout Mountain continues to shape Jacob’s life. Raised locally, Jacob feels at home at nearby Covenant College, where he is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in writing.

The scholarship was created in 2009 to honor Martha Bell Miller’s career as an educator who adored Rock City and promoted character and integrity throughout her life. One of Rock City’s first visitors in 1932, Miller would later join Rock City lore as “Ma Goose,” a role she performed from 1983 to 2005. She passed away in 2016.

SRC Inc. strives to impress upon its partners the importance of learning, education, innovation and individual development. SRC owns and operates Rock City, Battles for Chattanooga, Clumpies Ice Cream Co., Grandview, Chanticleer Inn and Starbucks; as well as the ticketing and concessions for the Incline Railway and the retail shop and café at Creative Discovery Museum.
